While living in Cuba, Miguel received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 11 years old and began to grow as a Christian. He was called to the ministry of the Gospel the very next year. In 1978, Miguel graduated from the University of Cuba Institute with a degree in Statistical Economy and Administration. While in Cuba, he was a missionary pastor and founded the First Baptist Church of Zulueta Cuba along with several other mission churches. During this time Pastor Cruz suffered persecution in his homeland of Cuba and was imprisoned as a political prisoner for a time.
In 1995, he received unique permission from the president of the United States to enter America with a special visa. Today Pastor Cruz is proud to say he is an American citizen and loves to serve God with all his heart here at First Baptist Church Naples as pastor of the Hispanic congregation.
