                            A Declared Fast and Intercessory Prayer Ministry

For our Sister in Christ, Karen Head
by Janet Wicker

http://www.fbcn.org/uploads/PrayerKaren.jpgFasting is a powerful spiritual discipline observed in both the Old and New Testaments when the people of God sought the face of God with a broken, repentant, and humble spirit.  It is a biblical way to truly humble ourselves in prayer as we declare our utter dependence on Him alone and focus all our attention upon Him.  During a time of fast, the Holy Spirit will cause God’s Word to come alive in your heart and mind and His truths will become more personally meaningful.  And, God moves in amazing ways in response to our heartfelt intercession during the time of fasting and prayer.

The Lord has impressed upon me that the greatest thing we can do for Karen Head, upon learning that a tumor has returned in her body, is to pray in a serious and focused manner such as this.  I ask you to join me for a series of 12-hour fasts, where at least one woman is seeking the Lord through prayer and fasting on her behalf for a specific 12-hour period followed by another woman who picks up the time of praying and fasting.

My immediate goal is to fill all the days of July and August with such dedicated fasting and prayer as Karen begins her chemotherapy treatment.  If you decide to do this, we would invite you to spend your 12-hour period in prayer (6:00 am/pm to 6:00 pm/am) for Karen abstaining from food (we would encourage you to drink water during this time) and allow for periods of intense prayer on her behalf as well as times of rest and work as required in your schedule.  But, every hunger pang would lead you to intercession, and every free thought would be focused in prayer during that time.  Specifically, I would invite you to forgo your regular meals during that time and spend that time in prayer.

How do you pray?   Ask God to speak to you through His Word.  Meditate on the Scriptures.  Sing praises unto His name.  Focus on the Father and all His attributes as you enter into His presence.  Then, intercede in humility for Karen asking for these things:

  *for her healing, that the Lord would be glorified in her mortal body;

          *for Forrest and her sons, Daniel, Benjamin, and Jonathan—for their comfort and sensitivity and strength as they stand with her daily; for her Mom, Dad, and sisters, too;

  *for her doctors, nurses, and technicians as they minister with anointed skill to her body;
for each one to be touched by the Spirit of Christ in her;

          *for the treatment drugs to search out and destroy all cancer cells in her body;

  *for the sending forth of the Gospel to our entire community as they witness her walk with the Lord;

          *for Karen’s emotional and spiritual strength to be renewed daily, for the strength of God to help her to persevere through this trial;

          *for Karen’s faith to be strong as she faces this challenge!

God has shown Karen this verse which we will claim with her:

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess

for He who promised is faithful.”  Hebrews 10:23
