Alive and Well

In our services, voices affirmed the ancient statement, “He is Risen,” by saying, “He is risen indeed!” All of our spirits were stirred this past Easter. The incredible enthusiasm and spiritual energy in all of our worship services reflect the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit “Who raised Jesus from the dead.” He “dwells in us, giving life to our mortal bodies” (Romans 8:11) and to the spiritual Body of Christ. Hundreds of volunteers served diligently this past weekend: as workers in the nursery and preschool, singers and instrumentalists, ushers, greeters, deacons and in other responsibilities. Many of you came early to serve in the Good Friday service on Friday and worked all weekend, “to whom I give thanks and all of the church as well” (Romans 16:4).

Thank you for your reception of our vision for the revitalization of the Worship Center, as described in the brochure, “From This Day Onward.” Much study has gone into this evaluation and will continue as we will share more and more with you. But please “strive together with us in your prayers to God on our behalf” (Romans 15:30). The Lord spoke to me one morning in my quiet time about His house and the parallel between our situation and that of Haggai. The Word of God reminds us: “I am with you, declares the Lord of Hosts, my Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not. In this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of Hosts” (Haggai 2:4, 5, 9).

Speaking of His Spirit, this weekend I begin a new preaching series from Acts chapters 1-12: “Ordinary People Experiencing Extraordinary Power.” Those who “turned the world upside down” in the first century did so by the power of the Holy Spirit Who enabled them to be witnesses all over the world and through the ages. The same presence and power resides in us today (Acts 1:8).

After 23 years of service in the Media Ministry, Joe & Debbie Brock retired at the end of last month. They often struggled through many health issues and much pain; yet all the while, maintaining a sweet spirit of service, love for the Lord, and loyalty to our church. My own preaching ministry has been immeasurably blessed by their facilitation. Thousands of people have been touched around the world through hearing the message via CDs and tapes. They truly have “worked hard for you” as “fellow workers, approved in Christ” (Romans 16:6, 9, 10). Thank you, Joe & Debbie. Know that your reward is great in Heaven and that many will probably be there because of your ministry. Indeed, the risen Christ is alive and well!
