I became a follower of Jesus Christ when I was eighteen. I had previously walked an aisle and was baptized when I was ten, but later realized that I had never really trusted Christ as my Savior and Lord. I lived a lie and was without peace all throughout high school.
One day, I was listening to David Meece, a Christian music artist, when he said, “There is no such thing as a part-time Christian. You either are one, or you’re not. CHRISTIANITY IS A RELATIONSHIP; something you are moment to moment, day to day - not just something you do one day a week and then forget about.”
When I heard these words, a light turned on in my soul. It all finally made sense to me; I needed a relationship with Jesus. The Lord convicted me of my sin and hypocrisy, and I repented, trusting Him with my whole heart and life.
I began to seek the Lord and His direction for my life. The gospel group, TRUTH, came to my hometown (Eclectic, AL) and I was instantly drawn to their ministry in music. I saw what God was able to do through young people who were willing to serve Him through their music and lives. After much prayer and pastoral counseling, I sensed God’s call on my life to serve in vocational ministry.
Just after graduating with my BA in Music from the University of Mobile, I married my beautiful wife Sonya Simmons. Together, we pursued this calling in vocational music ministry, which brought our family to serve here at First Baptist Church Naples about 12 years ago. We have been honored to pour our lives into the Choir, Orchestra, and Worship BLG over the years.
I was amazed to see the Lord’s hand of blessing on our church family this past year through the Naples Christmas Celebration (with Christmas Village). We are currently signing up those who are interested in participating in the NATIVITY and it’s not too late to join the NCC CHOIR. Our guest artist this year is EVIDENCE MINISTRIES from Nashville. Please pray for our ministry team as we begin preparing for every aspect of the Celebration. I’m inspired by how diligent our church family is to sacrifice so that others can hear the Gospel. We are indeed BLESSED!!
