The July 2017 U.S. Census estimate for Collier County reports that the Hispanic population of Collier County is the second largest demographic with approximately 27.8% of residents being of Latin American descent. With the estimate for the population of Collier County at 372,880 that would put the Hispanic population at 103,660. This population is expected to grow by another 12,000 people by the year 2023. The nations are truly coming to our doorstep.
My name is David George and I have the privilege of serving as the Pastor of Hispanic Ministries here at First Baptist Church Naples. It is a joy to serve at a church that has a pastor like Dr. Wicker who has a heart for the nations.
I began to develop a heart for the nations shortly after coming to personal faith in Jesus Christ, following graduation from Florida State University (Go ‘Noles). God instilled in me a desire to increase my biblical knowledge, which led me to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where I was exposed to the great need for the Gospel to go forth to “every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9 ESV).
This passion for all people led my family and me to serve as missionaries in Paraguay, South America with the International Mission Board, where our passion grew.
Currently, we are able to minister to people from ten to twelve different Latin American countries, each week. Every Sunday, we have new visitors because the population and need here in Naples is so great, and there are people looking for a place to belong and serve.
We are grateful and humbled that we are able to serve you and Latinos as leaders of the Hispanic Ministry of FBCN. Our prayer is that this ministry, too, will shine forth as a lighthouse so that “Cristo sea conocido en la comunidad Hispana del Suroeste de Florida y más allá”.
