Have you ever been in a place in your life and wondered “What does God have for me here?” That question has been a recurring part of my life.
I grew up as the youngest in a large family in Windsor, Maine. As a five year old boy, I heard our pastor talk about knowing the love of Jesus. On the way home from church, I put my faith in Christ on the side of the road with all my family gathered around.
My parents lived a life of faith in front of me. They served the Lord doing whatever was needed where He placed us - teaching, driving busses, hosting missionaries, or repairing and cleaning the church. Living a life on mission was who we were as a family.
Entering high school, my parents challenged me to be the light on my campus. I started looking at my high school as my mission field, and I surrounded myself with people who did the same. We started a Bible club, and my classmates started coming to know the Lord. It was after that school year at summer camp that I surrendered to the Lord, calling me to serve Him with my life.
In the first church where I served as a youth pastor, we started with four students on a couch in the youth room. What did God have for me there? I knew that we needed to reach out with the love of Christ to reach students and disciple them. My joy was found in helping students to see needs in the world, and then encourage them to use the gifts which God has given to them. I am continuing that theme in the area of missions and evangelism.
When God brought our family to FBCN seven years ago, I knew He had us here for His reason. I pray that we will continue to see and meet needs, both physical and spiritual. I want to encourage you to start praying for God to open doors of opportunity to join what He is doing, both here in Naples and all over the world. Ask yourself; What does God have for me?
This weekend, we will hold a Beach Baptism service. Seeing people step out in obedience and boldly proclaim their testimony of faith in the Lord never gets old!
