FBCNaples Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently heard remarks & questions that are asked by those who are seeking to learn more about FBCNaples.

    1. "I am from a small church, how do I find community and get connected in First Baptist Church?"
Answer: We have several ways you can find biblical community with other people in our church family. Our Bible & Life Groups (both on campus & in homes) are the primary way we encourage people to first get involved, as well as Women's & Men's ministries. Involvement in these groups seem to "shrink" a large church. You make friends and are equipped you to apply God's Truth to daily life. Bible teaching and fellowship occur in Small Groups and in these midweek offerings: RefresHer (for women), Band of Brothers (for men), Student Groups (on campus for Middle School & in homes for High School), and AWANA (for children). Other Special GroupsCare Groups, Events, Seminars and opportunities are offered at various times throughout the year.

    2. "What are different ways to become a member? I love options and being able to experience different churches. Why lock in on just one?"
Answer: We believe that the Bible encourages us to be a part of a local church family where we safely grow in God's grace and truth and in relationship with other believers. By committing to one church family, you can be cared for when needs arise. We encourage everyone who believes in Jesus to find a church home where they can both be filled up through the ministries of the church and be poured out in serving the Lord & others around us. 3. "How can I serve and get involved at First Baptist, or am I not needed to serve?"
Answer: The Body of Christ has many members who are uniquely equipped by God with gifts and talents. You may just provide the missing link in a ministry or even initiate one which is needed & stamped with God's approval. One of our 5 purposes as a church is service and we encourage you to get involved! 4. "Why does the Pastor preach out of a section of the Bible or a specific topic the way he does?"
Answer: We are very blessed to have Pastors who believe in the power of God's Word, The Bible, and who help us to apply it to our lives every single week! Our Pastors are called to preach the whole counsel of God's Word, which means they won't shy away from any part of it. You can hear these sermons by listening to our podcast or watching past sermons online. Of course, we are often blessed by some of the world's leading preachers, teachers and communicators.

    5. "Are you affiliated with a particular denomination and why? Do they determine who the pastor is and the program of the church?"
Answer: First Baptist Church Naples is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. While each SBC church is autonomous and is completely free to choose their own Pastor and programming, aligning ourselves with the SBC enables us to do more together than we could separately in spreading the Good News of Jesus around the world. We have an interdenominational flavor that has drawn folks from every conceivable background. Find out more about our SBC connections on our MORE RESOURCES page.

    6. "Are you affiliated with a particular political party or candidate?"
Answer: We are not affiliated with any particular political party of candidate. We encourage all people to fulfill their right to vote and to make their vote a matter of prayer & conviction. Only Jesus is Lord. He does call us to get involved as "salt & light" as citizens who promote moral values and religious liberty.

    7. "Why does the Pastor sometimes touch on controversial subjects? Isn't this divisive?"
Answer: Our Pastors have great passion for applying God's Word to real life and sometimes that involved sensitive issues. While we always seeks to bring biblical unity to our church family, we never wants to avoid relevant or even controversial issues when the Bible speaks to them. You can trust that our Pastors will do their best to speak clearly where Scripture is clear, but to always do so in a spirit of love, grace & compassion, led by the Spirit in timing and tone.

    8. "Why do you have different music styles and kind of worship services?"
Answer: We are very blessed to have a church body that is so gifted in the area of music. We also recognize that our SWFL community is very diverse and music is a big part of today's cultural diversity. Our hope is to provide corporate worship opportunities that help people connect with God in a way that is authentic and engaging. Whether you attend a contemporary service with music led by a Worship Band and or a blended service with music led by our Choir & Orchestra, you can trust that the music will be Christ-Centered, God-Honoring, Church-Encouraging & Gospel-Proclaiming. Our staff & church family work hard to not let musical style or service preference be a source of division, and we provide many opportunities throughout the year which invite our entire church family to worship together with one voice and one song. We encourage people with various talents and interests to contact our Worship Ministry.

    9. "How can I know what God wants me to do about church and the Christian life?"
Answer: We strongly encourage anyone who is contemplating the Christian life to make it a matter of prayer and talk with a leader in our church to learn how to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ. You can read more on our Salvation & Baptism page, or call our church office to talk with someone. If you're looking for a new church home, we encourage you to pray for the Lord to guide you and to investigate the various options. It's important to find a church home where you find common beliefs, can grow deeper in your faith and can serve as the Lord has gifted you. He has a definite plan for your life, which He will reveal and enable you to follow.

    10. "Do you believe that many roads lead to Heaven? If not, why are you so exclusive?"
Answer: We believe that the Bible, God's Holy Scripture, is clear: Jesus Himself states that He is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6). Only through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior can we have forgiveness of sin and entrance into Heaven for eternal life. While some may say this is restrictive or intolerant, we see this as God's gracious gift to us - to offer all of humanity a way to Heaven through His Son, Jesus.
