School of Worship Arts Instructor Biographies
Mike has a Master of Education Degree from Anderson University. He has been teaching music for thirty years. Mike’s main instrument is violin, but teaches all orchestral string instruments plus piano and guitar. He loves all styles of music. He is a Classical violinist, but being from East Tennessee, he also loves country and fiddle music. He has twice been nominated as Music Educator of the Year by the Grammy organization (2017 and 2019) for his creative approaches of blending Classical and Modern musical styles. He loves to see his students excel and do new things!
Dan Dickout, PhD, MM
Dan has a PhD in Behavioral Life Skills Counseling from International College of Behavioral Counseling and a Master of Music Degree from Boston University. He has taught violin, viola, piano, voice and guitar for thirty plus years. In addition to the years of private music instruction Dan spent 12 years as Conservatory of Music Instructor at Northern Lights College in British Columbia, Canada. Dan is known for patience and quality results as a music teacher. He has taught students of all ages. Dan has been a member of the FBCN Orchestra since 2007. Professional Memberships include:

David began playing the violin at the age of 8 and began studying privately when he was 12, in his hometown of Syracuse, N.Y. He attended Southern Methodist University on a full music scholarship and graduated with honors in 1990. He then attended Mannes College of Music in New York where he studied with Sally Thomas. From 1992 to 1994, he was co-concertmaster of the New World Symphony in Miami. Currently, David plays Principal Second Violin in the Naples Philharmonic and is a member of the FBCN Orchestra. David taught the High School strings class at First Baptist Academy for 8 years. David regularly coaches chamber music for the Philharmonic Youth orchestra as well as teaching their summer chamber camps. Most recently, he submitted teaching videos to the Collier County music departments during the pandemic. He has been teaching private lessons for 26 years.
Lani graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in viola performance in 1989 and then graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Music Degree in 1992. She has been playing professionally since graduation in various community orchestras and ensembles. Currently, she performs with the Vanderbilt Strings and the FBCN Orchestra. For the last 18 years, Lani has worked at First Baptist Academy in many roles including: Fine Arts Director, Middle School Strings, High School Strings and General Music Teacher. During that time, she taught private lessons to students of all ages on the violin, viola and piano.
Calvin O’Dell, Student Instructor
Calvin is a Senior at First Baptist Academy. He plays Acoustic and Electric Guitar and Piano for the FBCN Worship Band.
John Robert Patterson, Student Instructor
John Robert has been part of the First Baptist family his whole life. He serves with the AVL ministry and has been drumming for 6 and half years. He is the brother of five siblings and is currently in his first year of college. He loves serving his church, weightlifting, being with family, going on family trips, and loves the the Lord with all his heart. He desires to make Him known in his life and impact others for His Glory!
Rob is a native Texan from Garland, a suburb of Dallas. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, Rob was a member of the now 18 time World Collegiate Champion UNT Drumline for three years. He also had the great privilege of playing in the UNT Steel Drum Ensemble for 2 years. Rob's career in music began in 1991 when he became the percussion instructor for the McKinney ISD. His band directing career began in 1996 with the Garland ISD. In 2003 Rob surrendered to full time ministry and began leading the instrumental music ministries at several Dallas Area churches. In 2011, God brought Rob and his family to Naples to serve as the band director for First Baptist Academy, and as a percussionist and drummer for the weekend services at FBC Naples.
Ryan Platter, Student Instructor
Ryan is a Senior at First Baptist Academy. He is a drummer for the FBCN worship team and plays electric guitar for the FBA worship team. He’s been drumming for over 6 years.
Tim is a Horn and Music Education Major at Florida Gulf Coast University. His teaching style consists of heavily working on the technical part of Horn playing and of mastering the basics. Most of his teaching experience has been with elementary and middle school students but has no preference as you are never too young or too old to start playing. He's been a member at FBCN since 2003 and is a part of the church orchestra.
